Photo from UAAP Media.</div>MANILA (UPDATED) — University of the East dealt Ateneo de Manila University a rude awakening in UAAP Season 86.This, after the Lady Warriors scored a 20-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-18 win against the Blue Eagles on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.Rookie star Casiey Dongallo led UE with 27 points that were built on 26 attacks and an ace as she towed the Recto spikers to their first win against ADMU since Season 73 in 2010.“I’m very excited. The reason why we came to UE is to make history and this is part of it. The rest is gonna be a process po, it’s gonna take a while,” said UE assistant coach Obet Vital.“It’s a new system that we brought into UE, so we’re working really hard po. We’re happy with the win but we have a lot of work ahead of us,” he added.After absorbing a defeat in the opener, UE took two straight sets and forced the Ateneans to commit 18 errors in that span.The Blue Eagles almost forced an extension in the third frame after they managed to cut UE’s 22-20 advantage to one, 24-23, after Lyann de Guzman scored on an attack. But Zel Tsunashima’s attack did not convert, and this resulted in the Blue Eagles dropping the crucial third set.The fourth set then saw both teams tied at 13 apiece, but UE went on an 8-3 scoring spurt, and this eventually allowed the Lady Warriors to score their first win against the Katipunan-based squad after 14 years.Also standing out for UE was Riza Nogales who had 13 points and Kayce Balingit who had 12.Meanwhile, De Guzman finished with 19 that were built on 18 attacks and a block. Jlo Delos Santos followed with 12, while Tsunashima had 10.The Lady Warriors will take on University of Sto. Tomas on Wednesday, 4:00 p.m. at the Araneta Coliseum, while ADMU will look to bounce back against National University next Saturday, 4:00 p.m. at the MOA Arena.
