Photo from UAAP Media.</div>MANILA (UPDATED) — National University bounced back from its opening game defeat by sweeping Ateneo de Manila University.This, after the Bulldogs tallied a 25-22, 25-15, 25-17 victory over the Katipunan-based squad in the UAAP Season 86 men’s volleyball tournament on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.Nico Aldmendras and Jade Disquitado led NU’s charge, with the former putting up 18 points, all from attacks, nine receptions, and six digs, while the latter tallying 17 markers and 15 receptions.“Sa game namin ngayon, nagkaroon kami ng kumpyansa sa galaw namin. Malaking bagay yang paghahabol namin nung first set talaga,” said Bulldogs’ head coach Dante Alinsunurin.While NU cruised the Ateneans in the second and third sets, both squads figured in a close encounter in the first as they were tied at 22 as the set neared its end.Almendras then went for an emphatic attack off a set-up by Rwenzmel Taguibolos, while Leo Aringo followed it up with a block on Emmanuel Okeke.In the following play, Aringo’s attack went off of the Blue Eagles’ defense, and this opening frame win gave NU the momentum to dominate the next two en route to their first win of the season.“Pagdating ng second and third set doon ko nakita na kumpyansa na ulit maglaro yang players ko, at yun yun nawala sa amin nung last game namin,” added Alinsunurin.On the other hand, leading Ateneo was Ken Batas who scored nine points that came from seven markers and two blocks. He also put up five digs.Okeke had six markers, while JM Salarzon got 25 of ADMU’s 37 excellent receptions.The Bulldogs’ next assignment will be Adamson University on Wednesday at 10 AM, while Ateneo will hope to get back in the win column against University of the Philippines later that same day at 12 PM.Both games will be held at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
