Photo from UAAP Media.</div>MANILA — Ateneo de Manila University cruised past the University of the Philippines (UP) to return to the win column of UAAP Season 86.The Blue Eagles bounced back from its defeat against National University (NU), sweeping the Fighting Maroons, 25-19, 25-16, 25-23, in the league’s men’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.“We’re very happy that we were able to bounce back today coming off a very bad game against NU last time,” Ateneo head coach Timmy Sto. Tomas said.“I’m very happy that everyone stepped up today and everybody did well, especially those who came off the bench,” he added.JM Salarzon top-scored for the Ateneans with 18 points while also putting up seven receptions and two digs. King Mangulabnan also proved to be a spark off the bench and scattered 17 excellent sets as they improved to 2-1.After winning the first two frames, Ateneo was poised to drub UP and led by as much as five, 19-14, midway through the third.UP was able to tie the game at 21 apiece as they hoped to force a fourth set, but Cyrus de Guzman and Ken Batas, who scored 11 and 10, respectively, rallied Ateneo to finish the game in only an hour and 16 minutes.Leading the winless Fighting Maroons was Angelo Lagando who posted 15 points, 14 from attacks and one from a block.Daniel Nicolas put up six, while Louis Gambad finished with five.Ateneo next faces rival De La Salle University on Saturday at 12 p.m., while the Maroons will be clashing with the four-peat-seeking National University on the same day at 10 a.m.Both games will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena.
