SANTA ROSA, Laguna – It may be a tough pill to swallow, but the Cool Smashers have to move on from shocking defeat from the Chery Tiggo game, said Creamline coach Sherwin Meneses.

It has been a while since a rival downed them —  it was the Kurashiki Ablaze who handed them their last loss on July 30, 2023, in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational Finals, and then their last straight sets defeat was in 2019, delivered by the Petro Gazz Angels.

"Ah siyempre, number one diyan 'yung training. Kailangan di ka masyado, 'di mo masyado i-stress yung sarili mo (and) maka-move on kaagad kasi after (19) wins may talo ka so iba 'yung pakiramdam," Meneses told reporters on Saturday at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex.

(Of course, number one here is the training. The players should not stress themselves so much and move on immediately. It will definitely sting because they experienced defeat after 19 wins.)

Meneses revealed that he told his players "not to be very sad" after a 25-18, 26-24, 25-23 upset dealt by the Crossovers.

"So 'yun 'yung number 1 na lalagpasan mo. Pero sabi ko naman, 'wag masyado malungkot. So babawi na lang. Isang talo lang naman."

(So that's our number one hurdle. But I told them, "Do not be very sad." We will bounce back. It's only one loss.)

In a separate interview, team captain Alyssa Valdez articulated almost the same thing and vowed that they will train hard to bounce back in the next games.

"We're gonna work harder. So we're gonna be more focused definitely. And let's see. We're gonna give a good fight every game," she said.

The defending champions, still at a 4-1 slate up in the rankings, will be facing newcomers Capital1 Solar Spikers on Thursday, March 21, at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
