MANILA — University of Sto. Tomas ended their UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball first-round campaign with a clean slate.

This, after the Golden Tigresses defeated Adamson University, 25-18, 22-25, 25-15, 25-23, in their Saturday night matchup at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Jonna Perdido led Kung Fu Reyes’ team after putting up 16 points that were built on 14 attacks and two blocks, while Angge Poyos finished with 18 markers, six receptions, and three digs. 

Tied at 22 in the fourth frame, Lucille Almonte stepped up for AdU to create a one-point lead late in the set. 

Perdido answered with her own kill to tie the game in the next play, but a drop by Almonte propelled the Lady Falcons to the set point.

Both stars exchanged attacks yet again in the following plays as they reached an extension, but it was Angge Poyos who stood out as she gave her squad the match point and the win after back-to-back hits. 

The España-based squad’s seven straight wins is their best start in the Final Four Era.

Meanwhile, Adamson fell to 2-5 in the league standings.
