MANILA (UPDATED) — The University of the East finally saw their six-game losing skid come to an end on Saturday.

The Lady Warriors defeated Adamson University, 26-24, 23-25, 25-18, 25-20, during their UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament second-round bout at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Casiey Dongallo's star shone the brightest yet again, with the super rookie putting up 28 points, six digs, and four receptions while following her was Riza Nogales who had a career game of her own with 17 points.

"We have to give our all. Round 2 na po to, hindi na po namin makakalaro ulit yung Adamson, so kailangang ibigay na namin yung lahat," said Dongallo, who delivered the closing kills for the Recto-based squad as they improved to 2-6.

"Wag na po kaming mag hold back kasi hindi na po namin sila makakatapat," she added.

After UE broke a 1-1 tie as they emerged victorious in the third set, both teams figured in a close fight yet again as they were tied at 19 late in the fourth frame.

The Lady Falcons even took the lead briefly, 20-19, but this is when Dongallo took over the game.

The 5-foot-8, 18-year-old outside scored five straight points which was built on multiple attacks to separate themselves from Adamson, while an error from the Lady Falcons eventually ended the game.

Dongallo shared following the game that this particular victory was special for her especially since she wants to change the narrative of UE volleyball.

"Despite na ang dami na po naming losses, para sakin, ginawa ko yung inspiration," explained Dongallo of her squad who finally defeated the Lady Falcons for the first time since Season 81 in 2019.

"Yung iba kasi sinasabi na 'UE lang yan' so parang alam niyo na. Gusto ko lang po i-prove na UE is something, UE is new, kaya sobrang halaga po talaga ng game na 'to, kaya emotional po."

"Sabi nga po ni Kizzy [Madriaga], itong game na to, para sa seniors to. Nag promise po kasi ako sa kanila na aalis sila sa UE na iba naman po yung standing ng UE," she added.

Meanwhile, leading Adamson was Ishie Lalongisip who had 17 points, seven digs, and five receptions, while Barbie Jamili and AA Adolfo followed with 11 and 10, respectively.

UE will be looking to bank on this win when they next face National University, while Adamson is up for a tough task as their next assignment is University of Sto. Tomas. Both games will be on April 3 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
