UAAP Media/File"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">UP’s Goldwin Monteverde. <em>UAAP Media/File</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The UP Fighting Maroons are coming into UAAP Season 87 with a roster composed of a mix of veteran and young players.</p><p>Goldwin Monteverde&#x27;s group currently has four holdovers from the squad that won the Season 84 championship: JD Cagulangan, Harold Alarcon, Terrence Fortea, and Gerry Abadiano. The rest are either returnees from Season 86, or incoming rookies.</p><p>The coach is optimistic that the culture of the Katipunan squad has been maintained, and will be passed on to their new players seamlessly. </p><p>&quot;Well actually, yung pag-alis naman ng ibang members ng Season 84, nagsama sila ng Season 85 so kahit papano, yung culture ng team, naipakita nila, or in a way, na-influence yung mga bagong dumating,&quot; Monteverde told reporters recently.</p><p>&quot;Eventually it&#x27;s gonna continue naman.&quot;</p><p>Two players graduated following last season: Malick Diouf and CJ Cansino. Sila Noy [Remogat], definitely has a big impact sa team, but syempre, for next season pa siya and si Miguel Yñiquez. Sa mga practices naman namin they&#x27;re really doing fine, really look [good]. The Fighting Maroons saw their reign come to a quick end in Season 85 at the hands of Ateneo de Manila University, and their bid to regain the title was foiled by La Salle in Season 86.</p><p>&quot;Syempre, yung pain ng ganon laging nandiyan. It&#x27;s always gonna be a motivation for us. Syempre, pag masakit yung isang bagay, ayaw mong mangyari uli eh. So hangga&#x27;t maari, you do your best not to feel, not have that feeling,&quot; he said.</p><p>&quot;But ang importante lang right now is just to get to yung 100% namin before mag start yung season.&quot;</p><p>For now, State U&#x27;s focus is on their preseason preparations as Monteverde revealed that they are set to leave for their overseas training camps.</p><p>&quot;Same preseason leagues like last year.
