The Roger Gorayeb-coached squad made the statement win after a four-set battering of Strong Group Athletics, 25-18, 25-20, 19-25, 25-20 on Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Team captain Jorelle Singh, who was the only Solar Spiker in double-digits, had a game-high 13 points on 12 attacks and a block.

She said the breakthrough win will serve as a morale boost for her teammates.

"Sobrang nakakatuwa po kasi itong game na ito, sobrang importante sa amin kasi 'yun po 'yung makakapag-boost ng morale namin eh. Feeling ko po sa susunod na game, mas magiging maganda na po 'yung performance namin."

Gorayeb said errors held them back after they lost the third set.

"Hinahayaan ko lang sila. Pagdating ng fourth set, balik na uli 'yung sa tingin ko 'yung medyo more aggressive na player. Kasi medyo marami kaming error dun sa third set," the veteran coach said during the postgame press conference.

SGA won seven points off miscues from the blue and yellow shirts in Set 3.

However, Capital1 avoided a Set 4 meltdown as they rushed to a 6-0 run midway through the frame from a 12-all deadlock, sparked by a Cath Dizon quick attack.

Despite opposition from SGA, the Solar Spikers held on to that lead  a long rally ended in a block point for Capital1 to reach match point, and Arriane Mae Layug ended the 1-hour, 48-minute affair with an attack.

"Basta, a win is a win," said Gorayeb.

Mary Joy Onofre and Dolly Grace Versoza paced the Athletics with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Singh and company will play against the PLDT High Speed Hitters on Saturday at the Filoil EcoOil Arena in San Juan.
