MANILA — The Lyceum Pirates will have two new incoming studs to help them in their NCAA Season 100 campaign.

The Intramuros-based squad, who had to endure the departure of star Shawn Umali as well as Oman Omandac, is set to welcome Junior Pirates standouts Jasper Matienzo and Peter Mulligan, the school announced on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-3 Matienzo starred in the league’s juniors basketball tournament, with the Laguna native tallying 11.44 points, 4.78 rebounds, 1.89 assists, 1.44 steals, and 1.0 blocks per contest to lead LPU.

On the other hand, the 6-foot Mulligan, who is from Davao, averaged 6.6 markers and 2.7 boards in the Junior Pirates’ 2-7 campaign.

Seniors’ head coach Gilbert Malabanan welcomed the duo with delight, saying that they will be fitting well with the Pirates’ system come the league’s centennial season.

"We are delighted that Jasper and Peter have chosen to stay with us. I believe and trust in their capabilities, and they are a great fit for our system,” said the mentor who will be entering his fourth season as LPU’s head tactician, while also adding on the importance of developing players from their grassroots program to the collegiate ranks.

"It is crucial for us to maintain continuity from the grassroots to the senior level. Developing players from the grassroots and teaching them our system will make it easier for them when they reach the senior level.”

The pair of rookies will be looking to help fill in the gaps that were left by Umali, who transferred to the Benilde Blazers, as well as Omandac, who will now be playing for the EAC Generals.

Aside from Matienzo and Mulligan, formerJRU Heavy Bomber William Sy is also set to enter the Pirates’ program albeit in Season 101.

The former JRU standout previously left head coach Louie Gonzales’ squad after playing for them in Season 98 and 99.
