Handout photo</span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA — Four veterans of the Philippine boxing team are on track in their Olympic qualification bid, scoring successive wins in the 1st World Qualification Tournament in Busto Arsizio, Italy, running from March 3 to 11, 2024.</p><p> Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Nesthy Petecio won 1st round of 64 via referee stops the contest vs. Andela Brankovic of Serbia, and also won her round of 32 vs. Maria Claudia Nechita of Romania. She then defeated German Nancy Tas, 5-0, to enter the quarterfinals.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/sports/09/30/23/boxing-petecio-shifts-attention-to-world-qualifying-tourney">Boxing: Nesthy Petecio shifts attention to world qualifying tourney</a></div><p>She is now in the quarterfinals and she will be fighting on March 10 in the semifinals against Maud Van Der Toorn of the Netherlands. </p><p>In Petecio’s Women’s 57kg division, only the 2 finalists will be given spots to Paris. </p><p>Similarly, the Tokyo Olympics silver medalist has already won his bout vs. Andrey Bonilla of Mexico. He is now in the round of 16 of the competition and will face Shukur Ovezov of Turkmenistan. </p><p>He just needs to win 2 more fights to be able to reach the semifinals. In his category, the men’s 57kg division, all semi finalists will qualify for the upcoming Olympics. </p><p>Rogen Ladon won 4-1 vs. Federico Emilio Serra of Italy in the round of 64, then won via 2nd round KO vs. Said Mortaji of Morocco in the round of 32.
