MANILA — The NU Lady Bulldogs were dominant in their victory over the Ateneo Blue Eagles in their three-set victory earlier on Wednesday.

Norman Miguel's squad showed complete control of the Ateneans and unleashed their force as they tallied a 43-27 in attack points while also showing good floor defense (47-29 advantage in digs, 17-10 in sets, and 29-24 in receptions).

"I'm very happy dun sa performance ng team namin kasi kahit hindi ganun ka-perfect 'yung game namin, nakita talaga namin na nagtrabaho 'yung bawat isa sa amin," said team star Bella Belen.

Leading National U in the game was the towering Alyssa Solomon, as the 6-foot-1 star produced 22 points, eight digs, and four aces and Vange Alinsug followed her with 15 markers as the duo remained steady for their team.

However, what was to be noted were the numbers of their leader Belen.

The Season 84 rookie-MVP only had two points for NU — her lowest UAAP output so far — and she said that this can be attributed back pain that she is dealing with.

"'Yung sa performance ko naman po, may pain sa likod ko," she revealed to a couple of reporters just before she exited the Mall of Asia Arena.

She then explained further the extent of her injury.

"Nag-start po kasi siya nung nagkaroon ako [ng menstruation], so yung back pain, binalewala ko siya that time kasi akala ko, 'di ba kapag sa babae, 'pag meron ka, normal yung back pain."

"So nung nawala na yung mens ko, natapos na, nag-stay lang yung back pain at hindi siya nawala."

"Siguro kasalanan ko rin on my part kasi ako, pag may nafe-feel akong masakit sa'kin, hindi ko agad sinasabi sa coaches hangga't feeling ko kaya ko pa," she continued.

But Belen played through the pain and was grateful that her teammates had her back while she could not put up her usual output on offense.

"Kami po kasing team, talagang nagsasaluhan kami," said the open hitter.

The Lady Bulldogs can improve their chances of earning a twice-to-beat advantage if they win against the De La Salle Lady Spikers on Sunday. It remains to be seen if La Salle will field reigning MVP Angel Canino, but Belen says this should not impact their performance.

"Confident naman ako sa team namin na kaya naming lumaban with or without Angel," she said.

"Nandun man si Angel o wala, kailangan yung performance namin, talagang maganda.

The two powerhouse squads will be facing on Sunday, 4 PM, at the same Pasay Bayside arena.
