MANILA — The Adamson Lady Falcons survived a tough five-set bout against the UP Fighting Maroons during their UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament matchup on Saturday.

The Lady Falcons, despite facing a two-to-one set disadvantage, went on to win two straight frames which included a close encounter in the fifth. This, according to head coach JP Yude was a result of his team refusing to give in to the Fighting Maroons.

"For us, yung mga ganung sitwasyon, [sinasabi] ko lang talaga sa mga bata na they will remain talaga na yung kailangan nila gawin is kailangan talaga all the time kasi the struggles and the challenges every time," he told reporters at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium after the game.

"Kasi sometimes, 'di natin nakikita kung ano yung nasa harapan noon eh. Always may mga blocks because of the challenges pero I always remind them na kailangan you must go on, push through."

"Because hindi natin alam anong meron doon, so, sabi ko nga sa kanila, basagin natin yung mga challenges na yun. Kailangan labanan natin kasi kung iiwasan natin, same thing parin yung mangyayari. Good thing sa mga bata, ginawa nila in their best, remind always they give 100% percent, their very best," he continued.

Following this game, the Lady Falcons now sit at 3-8 in the team standings -- tied with the Ateneo Blue Eagles.

Unfortunately for Adamson, they do not have control of their chances especially since the FEU Lady Tamaraws are in a better position to clinch the remaining semifinals spot.

Still, Yude wants continuous growth for his squad and is challenging them to show and build their character in their remaining assignments.

"Siguro, number one thing is how they build their character and attitude talaga," said Yude, while also pointing out the things that they have already improved on.

"Yun talaga yung nakikita ko dun na nag grow sa kanila, kung paano nila i-handle yung mga ganung situation, the pressure moments na nandoon sila sa loob ng court and how they overcome it. Kasi sometimes, dati kasi, di nila nao-overcome yun eh, lagi kaming kinakapos."

"But now, nakita ko talaga sa kanila yung attitude, kung paano hinandle dun sa loob ng court tska character so siguro nagbi-build talaga dun sa mga ganung situation lalo na anim na sunod na talo kami is their character and attitude towards every game," Yude continued.

The Lady Falcons’ next game is on Wednesday when they face the UE Lady Warriors at the Araneta Coliseum. For the UAAP girls’ volleyball champion coach, aside from winning, one of his top priorities is for Adamson to show and improve their trust towards one another furthermore.

"For me, siguro talaga makita ko how they perform their very best talaga, every time, sa mga remaining games namin, because, yun nga, hindi biro yung mga makakalaban namin pero we will do our best," he shared.

"Yung gusto ko talaga makita sa kanila is how they build their trust sa sarili nila, sa kasama nila, the character and attitude talaga towards the game kasi every time, yun naman talaga yung number one goal dun."

"Kasi kahit gano tayo kagaling, pero pag nauunahan tayo lagi ng takot at kaba, mawawala yung performance namin so yun yung gusto ko talaga ma-develop at umangat pa sa mga bata," he ended.
