MANILA (UPDATED) — Far Eastern University continues to pile up wins ahead of the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament Final Four.

The Lady Tamaraws won their fourth straight victory after they defeated the University of the East in a four-setter, 25-19, 25-15, 22-25, 25-16, during their faceoff on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Chen Tagaod finished with 21 points that were built on 19 points, an ace, and a block, while Gerz Petallo tallied 14 markers as well as 10 digs and four receptions. Faida Bakanke posted 10, and Tin Ubaldo had 21 excellent sets.

“Tonight, maganda naman nakuha namin yung gusto naming mangyari na manalo. Pero sa loob ng panalo ano ba yung gusto naming mangyari? Yung sistema mas patibayin pa,” said Lady Tamaraws head coach Manolo Refugia after the game which lasted for an hour and 45 minutes.

”Kailangan pa naming pumukpok, kailangan rin namin yung motivation para sa next games para mabaon namin hanggang sa [next round],” added Ubaldo.

Trailing by one, 22-21, late in the third after an ace by Claire Castillo, Casiey Dongallo hit two straight kills to overtake the Lady Tams, and another off-the-block hit from the super rookie gave UE the set point.

She then hit the set-winning attack to avert the sweep, but the Lady Tamaraws regained their footing in the fourth, and this allowed them to keep their chances of earning at least a playoff for a twice-to-beat incentive alive.

Dongallo top-scored for UE with 17 points, 10 digs, and eight receptions for UE, Castillo followed with 14 points, five digs, and three receptions, but it was not enough for the already-eliminated Recto-based squad who are looking to end the season on a high note.

The Final Four-bound squad of Refugia have won their fourth-straight victory and are now at 8-4 in the standings, while the Lady Warriors sit at 2-10.

FEU will hope to continue to add more wins in its remaining games, one against the University of the Philippines on Saturday and the other against National University next Wednesday, while UE is hoping to end its four-game losing skid against University of Santo Tomas on Sunday.
