PVL: Creamline reasserts mastery of Choco Mucho

MANILA (UPDATED) – Creamline continued its mastery of Choco Mucho, 25-17, 25-22 25-19, in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference on Thursday at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

The Cool Smashers have won all of their 12 games against their sister team and improved to 8-2 — boosting their bid for a postseason ticket in the process and tying the Flying Titans on top of the leaderboard.

The Rebisco encounter also boasted a jampacked crowd with a total of 17,396 attendees — including Kapamilya 'Unkabogable' star Vice Ganda on the sidelines.

Captain Alyssa Valdez turned back time and chipped in 11 points anchored on 10 attacks, while Pangs Panaga added same number of points for the cause.

But what spelled the difference was the net defense of Sherwin Meneses' wards, where the pink jerseys logged 14 blocks — led by Panaga with five and Carlos with three.

The Choco Mucho side only had a total of five blocks in the three-set battle — with Maddie Madayag and Royse Tubino only having two apiece.

Not to be overshadowed, Creamline's main setter Kyle Negrito pulled the strings with 17 excellent sets, while Denden Lazaro-Revilla was there for the defense with 17 receptions.

Valdez noted that what they were training showed in the preliminary match.

"We’re very, very glad that slowly our training has been showing in the game. We’re really happy na lumalabas. Sabi nga ni coach, this win we’ll take it today, tomorrow is another day," she said during the postgame press conference.

 The much-anticipated encounter, expected to be a close fight turned into a one-sided affair, with Creamline dominating since the first set.

 After taking a 2-0 set lead, Creamline rushed to an 11-3 rally in the final canto which dictated the tone of Set 3.

The Flying Titans would score two more after Creamline reached match point, 24-17, but Panaga finally ended the one-hour, 28-minute battle with an off-the-block point.

Valdez and company still has one tough challenge before they break into the the next round.

"The job is not done yet. It’s going to be a long eliminations pa kahit one game nalang natitira sa amin, hindi magiging madali," she said.
