Handout/PSA</figcaption></figure></div>MANILA — The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will hold three legs of the Indigenous Peoples (IP) Games for its 2024 edition.PSC commissioner Fritz Gaston shared this development during the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum held earlier Tuesday in Manila, saying that they are aiming to further strengthen and promote the program and preserve the IP&#x27;s culture furthermore.&quot;Ang program for IP games natin this year, we have three,&quot; said Gaston. &quot;Last year we only had one, naputol &#x27;to eh dahil sa COVID, nahinto. And then we said, hindi dapat mahihinto at tiyaka palalakasin pa natin,&quot; he claimed.&quot;Our kick-off will be in Ilocos Sur sa April, the next one will be in Bacolod in July, and then the third will be in General Santos sometime in October. Pinipili natin yung mga lugar where we will hold the games na will be the nearest to all the tribes within the area so they can come down,&quot; continued Gaston.The Luzon leg of the IP Games will be from April 19 to 20 in Salcedo, Ilocos Sur, and it will feature the games that were identified by the local province itself.&quot;Ang nag identify ng games is yung provinces po since kada regions, iba iba yung cultural games nila,&quot; said IP Games project head Elias Samorin.&quot;Even yung technical guidelines po nila, sila po yung nagi-identify at nag uusap-usap kung ano yung agreement,&quot; he added.The particular games for the Ilocos Sur leg will be the Patalunton Match, a game that resembles the traditional patintero, Banga Relay, the Kadang-Kadang which will have men&#x27;s, women&#x27;s, and individual race categories, Lippay battle, Sunay Spin Challenge, Gabbo, Sinangduan, Binnurang-itan, Bekang (Archery), and Pika (Javelin).These will be held at the Salcedo Central School in the Municipality of Salcedo, and alongside the games are the IP Games Photo Contest and the IP Games Forum. The participants of the Luzon leg will be hailing from 14 of Ilocos Sur&#x27;s 32 municipalities, namely Alilem, Banayoyo, Burgos, Cervantes, Galimuyod, Gregorio del Pilar, Quirino, Lidlidda, Nagbukel, Salcedo, San Emilio, Sigay, Sugpon, and Suyo.Gaston and Samorin also added that the games for Visayas (Bacolod) and Mindanao (General Santos) will most likely feature a different set of games for each leg to adhere to the specific culture of the Indigenous people of the respective cities, regions, and municipalities. &quot;Upon the coordination meeting po namin [within the municipalities], ine-establish po namin yung specific guidelines. Yung games po kasi nila hindi lang parang games eh, way of living po nila yan. Part po yan ng cultural life nila,&quot; bared the latter.&quot;We are also very careful with the tribes. May mga sensitivities yan eh, diba? Kaya [tinatanong] natin yung mga tribal leaders nila, ano ba ang pwede, ano ba ang hindi? Kasi, we respect their culture and yung way of life,&quot; added Gaston.&quot;We are very careful of how we respect their lifestyle, and we make sure that the tribal leaders are the ones who make the rules.&quot;
