The España-based squad improved to 8-5 in the team standings to further their lead over Ateneo de Manila University, while UE fell to 1-12. The Blue Eagles' loss to De La Salle University later in the day formalized the Golden Spikers' place in the semifinals.

Paul Colinares followed with 12, Sherwin Umandal posted 11, while Dux Yambao tossed 15 excellent sets.

"Mindset namin since last part na 'to ng tournament, all out na kami," said UST assistant coach Benjamin Mape after the game.

The Recto hitters committed 20 errors in the game, five more than UST’s, and this added to the 75-52 advantage of the Golden Spikers in the match that only lasted for 80 minutes.
