MANILA (UPDATED) – PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial announced Wednesday that he has suspended Calvin Abueva for one game and slapped him with a P20,000 fine after the Magnolia forward raised the middle finger against a fan in Hotshots' game against Ginebra on Sunday.

Marcial also issued another warning to Abueva if he repeats the same antic.

"Si Calvin Abueva, sinuspende ko ng one game (at may) 20,000 pesos fine. 'Pag inulit pa ulit niya 'yon, sinabi ko sa kaniya, 'dadagdagan ko suspension niya, dadagdagan ko ulit 'yung fine niya,'" Marcial told reporters during the halftime of Meralco-Terrafirma battle at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Marcial confirmed that the penalties are effective immediately.

Due to the punishment, Magnolia will face the NLEX Road Warriors without Abueva on Saturday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Marcial also disclosed Abueva's side and said that the basketball player -- who has a history of unwanted antics inside and outside the court -- was pissed because of a fan.

"'Comm napikon lang ako kasi minura niya 'ko, 'di ko na pinansin, tapos nangumusta pa,'" Marcial relayed.

He advised the 6-foot-2 forward to raise concerns, whether basketball-related or not, to the referees or officials.

"Sabi ko sa kaniya, 'Sa susunod, sabihin mo sa referee, puntahan mo technical (table), puntahan mo 'ko, sabihin mo, 'kakausapin natin 'yung fan, pwede nating palabasin.'"

(I told him, "Next time, tell the referees, go to the technical table, go to me, and 'we'll talk to the fan, we can make them leave.")

The league has also informed the Magnolia side of the penalties handed to the player.

Abueva also got entangled with another incident just last month during Game 2 of the 2023-24 PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals, where he mocked the physical disability of San Miguel coach Jorge Gallent and had a verbal altercation with the wife of SMB forward Mo Tautuaa.
