Photo from UAAP Media.</div>MANILA — Nathaniel Acedillo is one of the promising young badminton players in the UAAP.The 20-year-old, who represented Adamson University in its badminton tournaments, was among RotaSmash&#x27;s two &quot;Champions of Change&quot; who are student-athletes who will be given support by the group as they look to realize their dreams.The Calapan, Oriental Mindoro native revealed that playing in the UAAP was a result of his eagerness to improve after absorbing defeat in a tournament in his hometown.&quot;Dati sa Mindoro po ako, athlete po. Nagkataon po na one time, natalo po ako ng regional tournament. Sabi ko po, gusto kong bumawi, so nag training ako sa Manila,&quot; the Soaring Falcon told ABS-CBN News during RotaSmash&#x27;s 1st Badminton Tournament on Saturday.&quot;Instead na bumalik po ako sa province, nagtuloy-tuloy na. Since alam naman po natin na cino-consider yung Manila na andito yung buhay ng badminton, naisip ko lumuwas para mag training, para pag uwi ko sa province namin, medyo kargado po ako sa mga tournament.&quot;But he revealed that this training actually led him to Intramuros and play for Colegio de San Juan de Letran in the high school division of NCAA badminton.&quot;Kaso nga lang, nagkaron po ako ng break na makapasok po sa Letran, kaya dito na po ako nag tuloy ng high school ko hanggang college. Yung mga coaches ko po kasi sa Mindoro, yung dating coaches nila, nandito na sa Manila,&quot; revealed the former Letran Squire, who was hailed as Season 95 juniors champion after they defeated San Sebastian College-Recoletos in 2019.&quot;Technically, pinasa lang nila ako then naipasok po nila ako sa Letran ng Grade 9. Nung nag pandemic, dapat po kasi sa San Sebastian po ako. Yung isang naging coach ko po sa San Sebastian, gusto niya pa ring i-pursue yung UAAP.&quot;&quot;I still tried po nung merong opening sa University of the Philippines, pero hindi man po ako nakapag UP, nag-open po yung doors ng Adamson,&quot; he added.Nathaniel made his UAAP debut in Season 85, but he admitted that he doubted his capabilities especially since the pandemic benched him for almost three years.&quot;Medyo hindi po ako confident kasi lumalaki yung skills gap ng mga kalaban ko since hindi ko na nalaro yung remaining years ko nung high school. Medyo slow start, pero lagi ko pong binibigay yung best ko,&quot; said Acedillo, whose squad unfortunately placed last in Season 86.&quot;Pero palagi po akong nagre-reflect para ako po yung maging catalyst ng pagbabago para sa Adamson. &#x27;Di man po ako yung pinakamagaling, pero I could be the one who does his best para sa Adamson.&quot;&quot;UAAP po talaga yung pinaka dream ko, and ngayon nagka-break na po ako, I want to make the most of it. Ang pinaka inaasam ko po, makapag Final Four po yung Adamson, and kung kaya pa po, mabigay namin yung magandang start para sa next generation,&quot; he added. He is also looking to use his status as one of RotaSmash&#x27;s scholar-athletes to not only inspire his fellow &#x27;Klasmeyts&#x27; in San Marcelino, but also those who are aiming to pursue their dreams in the sport as well. &quot;Scholars of change po kami, so inaasahan po kaming maging role model. Kailangang maipakita din po naming hindi lang sa badminton umiikot yung mundo ng pagiging isang atleta,&quot; he said. &quot;Student-athletes po tayo, so kailangang pahalagahan din natin yung pagiging academic life natin at well-rounded din po tayo sa iba&#x27;t ibang aspeto ng buhay natin.&quot;But above all, Nathaniel wants to use his platform to give back to his mother Mylene who has been his No.1 fan ever since.&quot;Along the way po, lagi siyang naka suporta. Hindi man po kami ganun ka okay sa financial, pero lagi pong gumagawa yung mama ko ng paraan para makatuloy po ako sa pag aaral at pag ba-badminton,&quot; said Acedillo, while also expressing his message for her.&quot;Ma, salamat po sa laging pag suporta. I&#x27;m always grateful po na naging anak mo ako at naging mama kita. Asahan mo na I will always give my best para sayo at para sa mga pangarap natin,&quot; he ended.
