LANCASTER, PA (UPDATED) -- Yuka Saso is now a repeat champion in the biggest stage in women's golf.

The Filipina-Japanese golfer came from three strokes down to rule the 2024 US Open and secure her second major championship, Sunday at the Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania (early Monday in Manila).

She carded a two-under-par 68 on the final day for a four-day total of four-under par 276.

This is Saso's second US Open victory, after she won in 2021 when she was still representing the Philippines. The 22-year-old officially chose her Japanese citizenship in November 2021.

Saso started off with a birdie on the second hole, but suffered a setback with a double bogey on the sixth as she struggled on the green. She showed her grit and poise in the back nine, however, carding birdies on the 12th, 13th and 16th, getting on the green off her drive on the par-four 16th.

Nerves seemed to kick in when she three-putted the 17th hole to drop a stroke, but she converted a clutch chip off the fringe on the 18th to stick the ball within inches to save par.

An emotional Saso thanked her caddy and her family for their support during the trophy presentation.

"To my caddy, thank you so much for all your patience and everything. And my family, I wouldn't be here without their support. Thank you so much if you guys are watching," she said.

She noted that the course had been difficult this week, but said that her mindset was the key. "I just try to be very patient out there, and that's what you need to win a major like this," she explained. "Just have fun playing with your player partners, and I enjoy the challenge."

Her chip on the 18th hole virtually sealed her second major, and it was a shot that she had hit short on the third day.

"I chipped from the front yesterday too, and left it more than 10 feet [short]," said Saso. "I just told myself today to be just be aggressive and not be short 10 feet, and I'm glad I was able to do it."

Now a two-time major winner, Saso says it is special to give one trophy each to her mother and father.

"I think winning in 2021 I represented the Philippines. I feel like I was able to give back to my mom. This year I was able to represent Japan, and I think I was able to give back to my dad. I'm very happy that I was able to do it," she said. "It's just a wonderful feeling that I was able to give back to my parents in the same way."

Before Sunday's triumph, Saso's best result since the 2021 US Open had been a runner-up finish at the 2023 KPMG Women's PGA Championship at Bartursol Golf Club in New Jersey.

With her triumph, Saso bagged $2.4-M in prize money and leapt up in the world rankings, where she stood at 30th place to begin the week.
