<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1719732474527IMG_4286.webp" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner">Gilas Pilipinas women’s under-18 in the 2024 FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup Division B. <em>Photo from FIBA.</em></span></span></span></div><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal;-webkit-text-stroke-width:0px;-webkit-text-stroke-color:rgb(0, 0, 0);min-height:13.8px"><span></span><br/></div><p>MANILA — The Gilas Pilipinas Women’s Under-18 basketball team has made its way into the FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup Division A.</p><p>The Filipinas earned the promotion after they dominated and repeated over Lebanon, 95-64, during their Division B Finals clash on Sunday at the Futian Sports Park in China.</p><p>Alyssa Rodriguez led the Julie Amos-coached squad with 22 points, 18 of which came from a 6-of-10 shooting from the three-point line, together with three steals, an assist, a block, and a rebound.</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal;-webkit-text-stroke-width:0px;-webkit-text-stroke-color:rgb(0, 0, 0)"><span><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1719734130017IMG_4287.jpeg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner">Gilas Women U18’s Alyssa Rodriguez. <em>Photo from FIBA.</em></span></span></span></span></div><p>Alicia Villanueva posted 15 markers, three dimes, three steals, and two boards, Naomi Panginiban tallied 13 points, four assists, three steals, and two rebounds, while team captain Ava Fajardo and Sophia Canindo each scored 10.</p><p>They also tallied 15 three-pointers on 39 attempts (38.5%) and showed impressive effort on the opposite end as their defense resulted in Lebanon committing 31 turnovers while also clamping them up with 21 steals.</p><p>Tied at 20 early in the second as Reem El Ghali opened the quarter with a three-pointer, Gilas suddenly shifted into higher gears and scored 17 unanswered points which were built on treys from Rodriguez, Panginiban, as well as trips to the 15-foot-line by Fajardo and Villanueva.</p><p>The young Filipina hoopers also limited their Lebanese counterparts to converting only one field goal throughout the rest of the first half, and this resulted in them putting up nine points in that quarter.</p><p>The Philippines then went on to hit the gas pedal furthermore in the third and built a massive 72-32 lead after Jolzyne Impresso’s trey at the 5:40 mark of the same frame, but it even grew to a 41-point advantage later on.</p><p>Panginiban’s hot hands from beyond the arc continued in the final canto and put Gilas up, 89-48, and this was all they needed to earn their way into Division A.</p><div><span></span></div><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal;-webkit-text-stroke-width:0px;-webkit-text-stroke-color:rgb(0, 0, 0);min-height:13.8px"><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1719734257575IMG_4288.jpeg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner">2024 FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup Division B Champions Gilas Pilipinas Women’s U18. <em>Photo from FIBA.</em></span></span></span></div><p>This was the Gilas girls&#x27; fourth straight win in as many games, with them defeating Maldives and Lebanon in the group stage and Samoa in the semifinals.</p><p>On the other hand, El Ghali led her squad with 31 markers, 15 boards, and five dimes but with seven turnovers, while aiding her was Maygen Naassan with 19 points, six assists, five rebounds, and four blocks but with six turnovers. </p><p>Meanwhile, Samoa defeated Iran in the Battle for Third Place game, 64-59. </p><div><br/></div>
