Handout photo</div>MANILA –Everyone knows the importance of developing the potential of hoopers at a young age.The star players we know were likely prepared during their youth — including eight-time PBA champion LA Tenorio.Tenorio, who is widely known as the professional league&#x27;s &quot;Iron Man&quot; due to his ability to play consistently at a high level for a long period of time, acknowledged the contributions of his stint with the San Beda Red Cubs under legendary high school mentor Ato Badolato.He later went on to become a four-time PBA Finals MVP and a trusted member of national team Gilas Pilipinas.And for that exact reason, Tenorio ventured into helping erect the Next Generation Basketball League (NGBL).NGBL would serve as a stage for high school ballers, said Tenorio, promising &quot;exposure&quot; for the future guns of Philippine basketball.&quot;We promise everyone the exposure kasi napakalaking bagay ng exposure sa high school players. Ako, galing ako sa high school program ng San Beda. Napakalaking bagay ng homegrown na galing high school,&quot; Tenorio, who also serves as tournament director, said.&quot;Hindi katulad ngayon na halos karamihan ng collegiate stars galing abroad.&quot;Tenorio believes that the country doesn&#x27;t lack talent — they just need the platform to showcase their skills.&quot;Ngayon kasi, nawawalan na ng opportunities yung mga homegrown high school players. Why? Because of the lack of exposure. Kulang na kulang. Pero I truly believe na marami tayong talent dito sa Pilipinas,&quot; the veteran point guard emphasized.Tenorio, alongside NGBL commissioner and PBA legend Ronnie Magsanoc, executive committee chairman and San Miguel Sports Director Alfrancis Chua, program director Bonnie Tan of NorthPort, and operations manager &amp; PBA chief statistician Fidel Mangonon III will be supervising the growth of the league.It will feature 15 top schools in the country.The UAAP side will be comprised of Ateneo de Manila University, University of Santo Tomas, Far Eastern University, National University, and the University of the East.Colegio de San Juan de Letran, San Beda University, La Salle Greenhills, Mapua University, University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, Arellano University, Jose Rizal University, and Lyceum of the Philippines University will be the member squads of the NCAA side.Xavier School and MGC New Life Christian Academy will also join the league.NGBL will open on August 11 at the Tanduay Gym in Manila, and an all-or-nothing P300,000 cash prize is up for grabs in the tilt.The tournament format is as follows: the squads will be divided into two groups with each group having a single round-robin elimination. The top 4 teams per group will then advance to the crossover do-or-die quarterfinals.The semifinals and the Finals will be decided via knockout matches.
