MANILA (UPDATED) – PLDT remained spotless in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference.

The High Speed Hitters defeated Nxled in straight sets for their third consecutive win, 32-30, 25-18, 25-17, on Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

The duo of import Elena Samoilenko and spiker Erika Santos was the catalyst in PLDT's win as they led the offense with 20 points and a 19-piece, respectively.

Santos said composure was key for her to help PLDT triumph over their Tuesday rivals.

"Siguro yung composure, nung mga start na kasi ng game medyo 'di ako nakaka-help sa team so minotivate ko 'yung sarili ko para bumalik sa akin," Santos, who also had a 42% attack efficiency, said during the postgame press conference.

After a tight battle in the extended opening canto, Rald Ricafort's cogs eventually made it on top after a 3-0 run sparked by a Fiola Ceballos kill from a 29-30 count.

Nxled's Chiara May Permentilla suffered a costly attack error to give PLDT a set point, and then Samoilenko followed it through to end the long, 39-minute Set 1.

Asked what made them snatch the opener, Santos said it was trust which made them hold on while giving credit to the gutsy Chameleons.

"Nung unang part, hinahanap pa namin 'yung groove namin. Tapos kinapitan na lang namin, nagtiwala kami sa mga kasama namin. 'Yung defense din kasi tsaka 'yung blockings ng Nxled sobrang established, so nahirapan din kami so credits sa kanila doon," said Santos.

The High Speed Hitters in the second chapter would later on orchestrate five unanswered points at the 20-18 mark, started by a Samoilenko hit, to make it a 2-0 lead.

The onslaught continued as the red jerseys started out strong in the final frame, 12-3, to control the rest of the match.

After kicking off the import-laced tourney on a sweet note, coach Ricafort hopes to continue the momentum as they face "harder" teams in their next matches.

"Yes, good start. Sana matuloy tuloy namin hanggang sa last two games. Mabigat na 'yung last two, yung Chery [Tiggo] and Farm Fresh," he said.

The Chameleons, now at a 1-2 win-loss card, have the chance to rebound against Farm Fresh on Saturday at the same Metro Manila venue.
