MANILA — Carlos Yulo is now among the world's best gymnasts following his double golden performance in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The 24-year-old ruled the men's floor exercise and vault of the Summer Games and became the only Filipino to have won two golds since the country participated in the Olympics 100 years ago.

This put him alongside the likes of Brazil's Rebeca Andrade, Japan's Shinnosuke Oka, and USA's Simone Biles to have won multiple medals in their event, with the trio ruling multiple apparatus across the men's and women's artistic gymnastics in the Olympics.

A standout from there is Team USA's Biles, who is not only the most decorated gymnast in Paris but arguably, of all time.

The 27-year-old not only has 38 Olympic medals, but Biles' greatness also resulted in five skills being named after her in the gymnastics code of points. The American has two eponymous skills on both the vault and floor exercise, and one on the balance beam.

Another one who has his own signature skill is Filipino-British Jake Jarman who has a move named after him on the floor exercise; he officially executed it in the 2023 Paris World Challenge.

Jarman went on to clinch bronze in the Games' floor exercise and fourth in vault — coincidentally, the two events that his fellow Filipino and friend Yulo won.

Does Yulo plan to replicate Jarman and Biles and develop a move that will be named after him as well?

"Not really po eh. Kailangan ko pa pong mag-explore," he told ABS-CBN News during his visit to the compound where he was greeted by Kapamilyas before his appearance in TV Patrol on Tuesday.

"Mahirap pong ma-sustain yung ganun. Medyo unique na skills po dapat talaga so kasi," he explained.

Yulo performed the Ri Se Gwang at 6.0 difficulty and the Kasamatsu at 5.6 to clinch the gold in vault, and he said that it would take more for a move to be considered by the code of points as his own.

"Kailangan ko po muna talagang mag explore, and kailangan ko pang ma-sustain siya sa international level," he added.

Despite this, Yulo added that he is not closing the doors on eventually doing it sometime in the future.

"Medyo challenging po yun para sa akin," he admitted. "Pero I'm open with it po."
