Photo from UAAP Images</div>MANILA — Ateneo de Manila University absorbed its second straight defeat in UAAP Season 87 after a fourth-quarter meltdown against University of Santo Tomas.Ahead 60-56 early in the final canto, the Blue Eagles saw the Growling Tigers run away with a 16-to-nothing charge, and they eventually dealt with their worst start so far under Tab Baldwin’s tutelage. Among those who witnessed this was Ateneo rookie Jared Bahay, as the young Cebuano star played in just his second game in the UAAP. He admitted that it has been challenging being tasked to take charge for the young Blue Eagles. &quot;Ang masasabi ko, as a rookie, medyo mahirap,&quot; he told a few reporters right before he left the Araneta Coliseum, Wednesday evening. &quot;Rookie ka pa lang, pero ang bigat na ng responsibility.&quot;<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/sports/2024/9/11/ust-tigers-flex-might-against-ateneo-for-2nd-straight-win-2123">READ: UST Tigers flex might against Ateneo Blue Eagles for second straight win</a></div>This is the first time that the Blue Eagles lost two straight games to start the season since they were led by Bo Perasol in 2013. That came after Ateneo ruled the UAAP for five straight seasons, with Norman Black being the architect of a five-peat with the help of the likes of Nico Salva, Ryan Buenafe, Greg Slaughter, Chris Tiu, Kiefer Ravena, Rabeh Al-Hussaini, Nonoy Baclao, and Emman Monfort. The Loyola Heights-based squad later found success under Baldwin and won four ‘chips including a three-peat in the late 2010s. They failed to defend their championship in Season 86 and finished fourth, and they are now competing with a roster that is composed mainly of new faces. Adding salt to their wounds, their latest loss was also the first time that they were defeated by UST in nine years. Back then, they were still led by the elder Ravena brother.&quot;Hindi naman namin pinag-usapan yun. Ang pinag usapan namin is need naming manalo as booster for the season, pero hindi namin pinag usapan possible na mananalo sila for the first time in nine years,&quot; Bahay said. Bahay acknowledged that this is not the easiest time to don a Blue Eagle jersey, especially with the downs that they are experiencing. Despite this, he remains patient with the process of building another winning culture in Katipunan. &quot;I&#x27;m up for that, I&#x27;m ready for the challenge,&quot; said Jared. &quot;Sabi ni Coach Tab na building a culture is like building a house. So sa first, foundation muna. Hindi agad kailanan maganda, and you can&#x27;t leave pa from the foundation. Ang ibig sabihin ko lang, hindi naman kailangan na maganda agad.&quot;In addition, Bahay also emphasized that his confidence remains unscathed amidst the struggles that they are facing.   &quot;&#x27;Di naman [nakaka-apekto sa confidence ko.] For me, hindi naman ito yung dead end. Marami pang games. Sa two losses, marami kaming na-learn. Madadala namin yun for the rest of the season and the future,&quot; he said, while also touching on the things that he wants to work on more. &quot;More leadership and competitiveness. Kailangan ko yun i-increase, kasi kailangan namin yun para maka panalo kami.&quot;Up next for him and ADMU is their lifelong rival De La Salle University, and Bahay is excited to play in his first Ateneo-La Salle bout. &quot;Excited ako.
