MANILA -- Marcio Lassiter is the new owner of the PBA's three-point record, after the San Miguel veteran overtook Jimmy Alapag on Sunday night.

Lassiter, 37, buried six triples in San Miguel's 131-82 rout of Barangay Ginebra in the 2024 PBA Governors' Cup at the Araneta Coliseum. The win also secured the Beermen's place in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

His third three-pointer came with just over seven minutes left in the first quarter and put him past the iconic Alapag, who finished his career with 1,250 triples. Lassiter wrapped up the night with 1,254 three-pointers and counting.

For his historic feat, Lassiter earned the Pilipinas Live-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week citation, having averaged 17 points and made 15 of his 27 attempts from beyond the arc for the period of September 10-15.

The past week marked Lassiter's return to form, as the sharpshooter got off to a slow start in the conference after falling ill due to food poisoning.

"As soon as I got sick, I wanted to be there for my teammates. But when you lose like 12 pounds, it's kinda hard to get back to it and regain my strength," said Lassiter, who missed the first two games of the Governors' Cup.

"I didn't have the legs. I was really feeling it. I was trying not to put pressure on myself because I knew part of it is I just wasn't there yet strength-wise. [I'm] thankful for coach Jorge [Gallent] for trusting in me and I knew I had to back it up and just keep putting the hard work in," he added.

Once healthy, Lassiter steadily climbed the three-point ladder. On Wednesday, he moved past the legendary Allan Caidic for second place after making four triples in a 119-114 win over NLEX. He added five more treys in a 139-127 victory over Phoenix last Friday.

"I'm just happy to get it over with so that I can really focus on the game because we have a big assignment against Ginebra. I'm just kinda happy that it is here. A lot of fans witnessed it. I'm happy for them," said Lassiter.
