MANILA -- Jimmy Alapag on Monday applauded Marcio Lassiter for becoming the PBA's new three-point king, after the San Miguel star broke his record.

Alapag retired in 2016 with 1,250 three-pointers to his name -- the most in PBA history. It was a record that stood until last Sunday, when Lassiter drilled his 1,251st career three-pointer in the first quarter of their PBA Governors' Cup against Barangay Ginebra.

"Congrats to the new PBA 3-point king, Marcio Lassiter!" Alapag said on social media.

"A well-deserved honor that speaks volumes of your work ethic, preparation, and consistency through the years," he added.

Lassiter finished with six triples against the Gin Kings in a 131-82 win for SMB, giving him 1,254 three-pointers and counting for his career.

Alapag, now a member of the Sacramento Kings' coaching staff in the NBA, hailed Lassiter's growth as a player, having been teammates in the first iteration of Gilas Pilipinas.

"[I] wish I could've been at the Araneta Coliseum to witness that record breaking moment and congratulate you in person," he said.

"Continue to raise the bar for the next generation of PBA players who now have a new record to chase after!! Continued blessings on the rest of your career," he concluded.

Lassiter was congratulated by the PBA at the halftime of the SMB-Ginebra game for his feat, and earned Player of the Week honors for the period of September 10-15 by the PBA Press Corps.
