MANILA – After a forgettable campaign last conference, the Converge FiberXers are eager to prove themselves this time in the 2024 PBA Governors' Cup.

Alec Stockton asserted this as the FiberXers see themselves inch closer to a quarterfinal berth after pushing back Meralco, 105-97, on Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Converge ended the PBA 48th Season Philippine Cup elimination round in 12th place with a 2-9 win-loss card.

But this time, after securing their fifth triumph, they see the hope of advancing to the next round, and that fuels them further.

It was Stockton who wore the heroic cape for Converge after hitting three badly-needed baskets in the dying moments against the Bolts.

"I think some learnings that we took from the past conference was obviously, we've taken a lot of Ls. So, we took that into consideration and we adjusted and we're very motivated to prove ourselves this conference and especially, like I said, that we really wanted this, to make the playoffs," Stockton said.

"We want to prove something in this conference," the 6-foot-2 gunner reiterated.

Tempering expectations, Converge mentor Franco Atienza echoed Stockton's desire to enter the playoffs, but they don't want to get ahead of themselves.

"Medyo maaga pa, eh. Marami pang puwedeng mangyari," Atienza said. "We wanna prepare for the playoffs, but first, we wanna get there."

Their last task in the elimination round is also quarterfinal-seeking Magnolia, which currently has a 4-4 record.

They will clash on Monday at the same Manila venue.
