MANILA -- The Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA) is coming to a close, and young Filipino driver Zach David aims to "head stronger" in its last four rounds.

Fresh from a month-long break, David is keen on not repeating his past mistakes for the second half of FRECA.

"I think my main goals would be to fix my mistakes I've made in the first half of the season and continue to build on what I've already done so far. So my goal is to head stronger than how I started," he told ABS-CBN News.

During the calendar break after round 6 in France, David went back to the Philippines where he ran laps at the Carmona Race Track in Cavite and Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.

Sans a Tatuus T-318 car used in the European championship, David trained with a KZ shifter kart back at the Carmona circuit where he discovered his passion for racing.

Though training in a shifter kart may be quite different from driving a Formula car, David said it still made up for a good workout.

"Everything here feels a lot quicker ‘cause you're doing so many things at the same time. The car in go karting, a lot of things are happening cause the track is quite short so you're basically always doing something. But in the FRECA, there are some tips, more advanced techniques to apply but at the fundamental, it's just [with] the shifter, everything feels a lot quicker so it's a good workout," he said.

The 17-year-old Filipino racer still has eight more races to go to increase his 39 points so far. He is currently in 11th place.

David said the remaining rounds will be about working more with his R-ace GP team to improve on past errors.

"I'll be putting a lot of review work into fixing my mistakes. I'll be looking at my past mistakes and go over every single one of them and try to find a solution to them and apply them and make sure I fix them for the race," he said.

With a jam-packed September and a final race in October, David said he is looking forward to spending his time with the team.

"I'm looking forward to just  being with the team, just working together with them. I think we have a good (working relationship), we work really well so I'm just gonna enjoy the time I have with them," he said.

Here is the schedule of the remaining rounds:
