Photo by Angela Davocol, NCAA Philippines.MANILA — Colegio de San Juan de Letran outlasted defending champion Mapua University in an overtime thriller, 85-82, on Wednesday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan for its fourth straight win in NCAA Season 101.</div>The Knights avoided completely squandering an early 17-point cushion, and setting the table was Titing Manalili who listed 16 points, 10 assists, six rebounds, and a steal as they improved to 4-3 in Group B.“Sinabi ko na dapat composed lang kami kasi ang Mapua, physical team,” said the rookie from Cebu, who made crucial plays on both ends in regulation and in OT.Also doing damage for Letran was Jimboy Estrada who fired 20 markers, Kevin Santos who poured in 17 points and nine rebounds and Aaron Buensalida, who tallied a 16-point, 10-rebound game.But for Letran coach Allen Ricardo, it was the maturity of Manalili that shone the most.“A bit shaky pa rin, but what’s good about his character is they didn’t give up,” said Ricardo of Manalili, who had crucial assists and foul shots that sent the game to OT, and who was vital to stopping reigning MVP Clint Escamis in the extension.On the other hand, Escamis missed both of his chances to win the game — a triple in regulation and foul shots in OT — as the Cardinals absorbed their third loss in six games.The 25-year-old Escamis only logged 14 points on 4-of-11 shooting, and this was after his two-point outing on 0-of-5 shooting in their 70-79 loss to San Beda University last Friday.<div style="line-height:1.5"> </div><div style="line-height:1.5">The Scores:</div>Letran 85 – Estrada 20, Santos 17, Buensalida 16, Manalili 14, Cuajao 9, Omega 4, Gammad 3, Rosilio 2, Yusi 0, Gazzingan 0.Mapua 82 – Nitura 19, Gonzales 17, Escamis 14, Cuenco 10, Sapasap 9, Delos Reyes 7, Recto 4, Concepcion 2, Igliane 0, Lazarte 0, Gulapa 0.Quarterscores: 25-12, 41-38, 53-62, 78-78, 85-82.
