MANILA – After being teammates since they were kids, to rivals in South Korea, the Gomez de Liaño brothers will once again be opponents, this time at home. Javi and Juan Gomez de Liaño will be playing against each other in the PBA&#x27;s golden season. Javi is making his PBA return with the Magnolia Hotshots, while Juan is entering his rookie season with the Converge FiberXers.The brothers are looking forward to competing on opposite ends of the court, especially in front of their family and friends. <div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/basketball/2025/10/1/pba-coaches-believe-revamped-converge-blackwater-can-shake-up-season-50-1000">PBA coaches believe revamped Converge, Blackwater can shake up Season 50</a></div>&quot;Of course. We played against each other in Korea. But now it&#x27;s more meaningful, PBA na eh. It&#x27;s something we&#x27;ve been really talking about since we were kids. I&#x27;m really excited. We didn&#x27;t know it would be this year we will play against each other. Right now, in front of our friends and family too. So that will be more special for us,&quot; Javi said. &quot;Yeah for sure. I grew up with Javi. Now we have a chance to play in the PBA. It&#x27;s something we dreamt of since we were kids. I&#x27;m definitely looking forward to the match-up,&quot; Juan said.They previously faced off in the Korean Basketball League (KBL), when Juan was with the Seoul SK Knights and Javi in Anyang JKJ Red Boosters.Javi said he treats every game with teams the same, but he&#x27;s more excited to face his younger brother.&quot;Of course every game we play against each other is something to look forward to. Last year we played against each other in the KBL, he would always win. This time naman I hope facing Converge, of course I&#x27;d like to win against Juan for friendly competition lang. I know he&#x27;s used to pressure ever since his UP days. So more of reminders lang for him what to do. He knows na rin eh. He&#x27;s been overseas for four years. So I just shared some of my experiences,&quot; he said. They may be on rivals for now, both Javi and Juan have the same goal of helping their respective teams to win a championship.Magnolia and Converge will clash on December 5 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo, where Juan and Javi may suit up and play against each other.
