Olsen Racela earned his best start as Altas coach, thanks to JP Boral’s 15 points, which included five crucial markers down the stretch. But the San Miguel Beer legend was quick to downplay the win. “It’s a big win for us, especially na it’s against the defending champions,” said Racela, whose team improved to 3-0 in Group A. “But for me, it means nothing. Malayo pa &#x27;yung season, it’s just our first week.” Tied at 65 with under four minutes left, the Las Piñas-based cagers hacked out a 10-to-nothing closing charge that was built on a three-pointer from Boral, and a deuce from Patrick Seal that extended their lead to four possessions. Over to the Cardinals’ side, Clint Escamis fired blanks throughout the second half including the final quarter when his presence was badly needed. The reigning MVP was put to clamps, finishing only with six markers on 3-of-13 shooting, while leading the Cardinals in their first loss in three outings were JC Recto and Cyril Conzales who scored 16 and 15, respectively.
