Photo from UAAP Media.MANILA — Ateneo de Manila University fell short against University of Santo Tomas in UAAP Season 88 anew, and for head coach Tab Baldwin, one major factor was the quality of their shot selection. “Our shooting efficiency hasn’t been good. Some of that is our shot selection, and some of it is good shooters missing their shots,” Baldwin said after their 59-67 loss on Saturday. “We didn’t win because we didn’t hit shots.” The Blue Eagles actually attempted more field goals than the Growling Tigers, 85 to 60, but converted only 24 for a 28.2% clip. Ateneo also ranks last in field-goal percentage this season, placing eighth with a 34.36% mark built on 279 makes out of 812 attempts across 11 games — this, despite being fourth in total attempts. But while Baldwin acknowledges that this includes tough shots from the likes of his key guys Jared Bahay and Kymani Ladi, he still expects better efficiency from his team. “[Bahay] is not the only one who is struggling,” Baldwin said. “He is a courageous kid. He’s gonna take tough shots, and lower percentages are always expected for a guy who steps up in taking those shots.” “I’m concerned about all of them, and more about shot selection. If we took better shots, our percentages would be higher,” he added. Although the Blue Eagles are tied with Adamson University for fifth and sixth at 5-6, their Final 4 hopes remain alive. Ateneo will close out Round 2 against Adamson University, University of the Philippines, and De La Salle University, and sweeping these assignments gives them the best chance to advance. And for Baldwin, the formula is simple: convert the shots they are already taking. “Am I confident we will bounce back?
