File photo/Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News.MANILA — Dwight Ramos is set to return for another go-around for Gilas Pilipinas later this year.</div>The fan-favorite is expected to don National colors anew in the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup in August, and the 2027 World Cup Qualifiers which will open in November.The Philippines will face New Zealand, Taipei, and Iraq in the Group Stage of the Asia Cup, and again NZ and Australia, as well as Guam, in the World Cup qualifiers.“I mean, for me, I have played with Gilas every year since 2020, and every year I have to play against New Zealand,” said Ramos on their matchups during his media availability at the Japan B.League Finals viewing party on Saturday in Cubao.“So that’s tough and then obviously, we also lost in Taipei, so we want to get back. I always got to play against New Zealand, that was my initial thought,” he continued.Ramos is currently 1-3 vs. the Tall Blacks in his Gilas career.His first one came on February 27, 2022, wherein he put up an 18-point, 10-rebound game with three steals and two assists albeit coming in a loss. The next was four months later when he had six markers, nine boards, four assists, and two steals in another defeat.Ramos and the rest of Gilas then tallied their breakthrough victory vs. the Tall Blacks during the Asia Cup Qualifiers in November 2024.The 6-foot-4 Filipino-American posted 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists vs. the Kiwis in that historic win, but he acknowledged that it will be tough to steal another one from the World’s No.22 team.“The Asia Cup is going to be tough, for sure. We don’t have Kai [Sotto], but we&#x27;re going to figure it out and see who&#x27;s available,” said Ramos of his fellow Japan B.League star who is currently sidelined as he recovers from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear.“Our job as the players is to show up and do our best. That’s all I’m gonna do. I’m gonna train, look forward to it, and put my best foot forward,” continued Ramos, who had eight points, two rebounds, an assist, and a steal in their loss to NZ last February.Aside from the Asia Cup, Gilas will gun for its fourth-straight World Cup appearance through the 2027 Qualifiers.And while this poses another tough challenge for the Tim Cone-coached squad as they will not only battle NZ but also No.7 Australia, his sole focus, for now, is taking care of every winnable game possible.“The World Cup Qualifiers, we&#x27;ve got a tough group, but it&#x27;s just qualifiers, you know,” he said. “So, the goal is just to qualify, it&#x27;s not to win every single game. We want to do so, but at the end of the day, we just want to qualify.”Ramos, before reuniting with the rest of the Gilas troops ahead of the Asia Cup, will first return to the United States for some personal training.<div>The Asia Cup runs from August 5-17 in Saudi Arabia, and three months after, the Nationals will face New Zealand on November 28 to start their World Cup Qualifiers campaign.
