Photo from PBA Images.MANILA — Paul Lee led a late-game surge to lead the Magnolia Hotshots back in the win column.</div>Following their first loss, Magnolia torched the NorthPort Batang Pier, 106-97, during their PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup faceoff on Saturday at the Candon City Arena in Ilocos Sur.Lee scored 10 of his 16 total points — half of which came from the four-point line — in the fourth canto, and this complemented Zav Lucero who stood tall anew with a 20-point, eight-rebound game on top of three steals and a pair each of assists and blocks.Also delivering were Mark Barroca (15 points, seven assists, four rebounds), Peter Alfaro (13 points), and Aris Dionisio and Jerom Lastimosa who each scored 10 markers.This allowed the Hotshots to improve to 7-1 as they previously absorbed their lone defeat in the conference so far, one that came against the Rain or Shine ElastoPainters.On the other hand, the Batang Pier absorbed their sixth straight loss after they opened the All-Filipino tournament with a win. They fell to 1-6 in the team standings despite holding a double-digit lead in the third canto.This loss spoiled William Navarro’s stellar 27-point, 13-rebound game with four steals and three assists, Sidney Onwubere’s 19 markers, nine boards, and a rejection, Jio Jalalon’s 16 points and six rebounds against his former squad, and Joshua Munzon’s all-around game of 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists.NorthPort was up 73-63 with only three minutes left in the third frame, but Dionisio, Lee, and Lucero made efforts to cut their deficit to one, 75-74, as the trio contributed to Magnolia’s 11-to-2 charge.The two squads then went on to exchange hits in the last period, but the Hotshots fired a 20-5 surge late in the game for a 106-93 cushion, one that was fueled by two four-pointers by Lee, and a pair of treys by Dionisio.This eventually was all Magnolia needed to seal the out-of-town victory and add more to NorthPort’s woes.
