Photo from PBA Images.MANILA — Barangay Ginebra San Miguel fired blanks in their PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup semifinals Game 4 loss on Wednesday.</div>Poised to take a 3-1 lead over the San Miguel Beermen in their Best-of-7 affair — with the Gin Kings even leading at halftime albeit only by one, 51-50 — Ginebra&#x27;s offense dried up in the third period, where they made just five of 18 field goal attempts.To make things worse for the perennial crowd-favorites, Ginebra’s defense also let up in the same frame as they allowed San Miguel to score 17 straight, more than half of the Beermen’s 30 third-quarter points.“It killed us, for sure,” acknowledged the high-flying Jamie Malonzo before he departed the Mall of Asia Arena.“Their second unit came out with some fire, and that made the difference. They were a little harder to guard for us today, and they took advantage of their run,” he added.San Miguel Beer’s bench outscored the Gin Kings’, 44-30, and their defense also limited the latter’s playmaking prowess. Ginebra was averaging 24.7 assists in the first three games, and they were limited to 18 this time around.“Coming off of back-to-back games, we came a little bit slower, and they came out faster. That&#x27;s what we need to focus on, to win back-to-back games,” said Malonzo on what factored in their performance.However, despite an off-night offensively for Ginebra, Malonzo offered no excuses. Instead, he said that they could have performed better on the defensive side of things even if their shots weren’t falling.“They did a good job, but we could have done better,” he emphasized. “We allowed them to score 50 in the first half, that’s not usually our goal. Defensively, we could have done a lot better.”Malonzo is now looking past this, and he pointed out how he and his teammates will keep their heads high despite their abysmal performance.  “I know my guys, we’re gonna come out in the next games with some fire,” he insisted. “No way do we want a Game 7, so we’re just gonna have to look at what we did wrong and look to correct it.”<div>Game 5 of the Best-of-5 series is on Friday, July 5, 7:30 p.m., at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.
