MANILA -- Ginebra import Justin Brownlee is hoping for the best for his friend and former teammate James Dickey III, who was let go by Phoenix after eight games in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner&#x27;s Cup.Brownlee told reporters that Dickey&#x27;s situation is &quot;unfortunate.&quot;&quot;You know, obviously injuries are part of the game,&quot; Brownlee said Friday at the Araneta Coliseum, after the <a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/2026/5/1/pba-meralco-routs-ginebra-to-boost-top-4-push-2305">Gin Kings suffered a 112-91 loss to modern day rival Meralco</a>.&quot;I’m not sure what was going on in the media about him being, I guess, okay to play, I’m not sure. But from my understanding, he had a significant injury that kept him out. So you know, I&#x27;m just praying for his recovery,&quot; he added.The Fuel Masters replaced Dickey III days after he opted not to play against the Converge FiberXers due to an ankle injury. The all-Filipino Phoenix squad eventually suffered a beatdown by Converge, 130-103, in the absence of Dickey III.  Despite the unfortunate turn of events, Brownlee believes Dickey still performed well in his first outing in the PBA. Before his exit from Phoenix, Dickey led the PBA in rebounding with 19.6 boards per game. Brownlee is also hopeful that Dickey can return to the league, pointing out that he steered the Fuel Masters to a 5-3 record before he was replaced.&quot;I think he did a great job in the PBA, especially it&#x27;s his first time. I think he likes Asia and I think he will for sure he will be back. If not Phoenix, maybe some other team. I&#x27;m sure some other team took note of what he can do,&quot; Brownlee said.  &quot;I think he had a good showing, he had a good showcase here in Philippines, showing what he can do. He put Phoenix in a position right now where they’re competing for, if I’m not mistaken, the top four... I think he did a good job, just healthy recovery and he&#x27;ll be back in the PBA for sure,&quot; he explained. Phoenix went on to win its first game without Dickey III on Friday, as former Best Import Johnathan Williams made his return. The <a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/basketball/2026/5/1/pba-rivero-tio-come-up-clutch-to-lift-phoenix-past-tnt-in-overtime-2117">Fuel Masters outlasted the TNT Tropang 5G, 100-97</a>, improving to a 6-4 record in the race to the semifinals.
