The Paris 2024 Olympic Games were a "huge success", but there are still "lessons to learn", International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach said on Tuesday (December 3).

He was speaking at the opening of the executive board meeting in Lausanne, the first one since the Games.

"We have to work at the moment where overall we are enjoying this huge success but where on the other hand there are still lessons to learn," he told members at the meeting.

The Games were also the last for Bach as IOC president, with the German, in charge since 2013, announcing in Paris that he would not seek re-election next year, paving the way for a new leader.

There are seven candidates bidding to succeed him at the IOC elections in Greece in March.

World Athletics chief and former Olympic champion Sebastian Coe is arguably the biggest name. Standing against him are Zimbabwe's Sports Minister and former swimmer, Kirsty Coventry, son of the late former IOC president, Juan Antonio Samaranch Salisachs, and international cycling chief David Lappartient.

Completing the candidates' lineup are Prince Feisal Al Hussein of Jordan, international gymnastics federation head, Morinari Watanabe, and Olympic newcomer Johan Eliasch.
