Jayson Santiago</div>MANILA – The Marist Marikina 10U Baseball Team will be representing the Philippines at the Babe Ruth Cal Ripken World Series in Vincennes, Indiana in the United States next month.The team earned their ticket to the prestigious baseball competition after winning the inaugural Babe Ruth League Philippines national tournament last May held at the Clark International Sports Complex, Pampanga.After a week&#x27;s worth of rest since their historic win, the team hit the field again training every Wednesday, Tuesday and Friday.&quot;Dire-diretso kasi siyempre kailangan mag-improve &#x27;yung mga bata para manalo tayo sa World Series. &#x27;Yung mga bata naman.. medyo excited sila sa paglalaro kaya every training pinu-push nila sarili nila mag-improve,&quot; head coach Jayson Santiago told ABS-CBN News.&quot;Sa ngayon marami pang kailangang improvement pero going there,&quot; he added.Santiago, who is also the local president of the Babe Ruth League Philippines, said 28 teams will compete in their division mostly from the United States, including international teams from Korea and Panama.&quot;Medyo malaking tournament siya so marami ring kalaban na malalaki, malalakas. Pero siyempre kita niyo naman &#x27;yung mga player ko... Ang goal ay mag-gain ng experience &#x27;yung team. Magkaroon ng learning pag dating sa international and then hopefully ma-apply natin dito sa Philippines &#x27;yung mga bata lalong gumaling sa baseball,&quot; he explained.Members of the team aged between 7 and 10 years old are raring to go overseas and represent the country.One of them is Carlos Iñigo Babida, who is a scholar and started playing baseball at a young age because of his older brother.&quot;Sobrang saya po dahil sa makakapunta kami sa ibang bansa dahil sa isang laro. Nakakatuwa po kasi makakalaban namin &#x27;yung US kahit &#x27;yung Africans,&quot; Babida said.The 11-year-old pitcher and shortstop said their belief in themselves and teamwork led them to the historic win -- things they will also bring to the upcoming tournament.&quot;Nagte-training kami po ng mas matindi po para matalo naman kahit anong kalaban namin para hindi namin masayang papuntang US,&quot; he shared.&quot;Thank you po sa lahat ng nagsusuporta sa amin. Sana po magtiwala po kayo,&quot; Babida said.The only female player on the team, Charlotte Hailey Santiago, said she is looking forward to playing overseas again.&quot;Sobrang excited na po ako nung nanalo kami sa last inning po.... Sinasabi namin don&#x27;t give up po kasi kaya pang magawa &#x27;yung kailangan gawin,&quot; she shared.Santiago said getting funding for the team remains a challenge, as the budget needed per player can reach up to P200,000. This covers transportation, food and other expenses.&quot;Problema talaga namin &#x27;yung financial dahil sagot ng mga parents &#x27;yung alis ng mga bata. Eh meron tayong scholar na kailangan nating tulungan. Fifteen &#x27;yung player namin, unfortunately 12 lang &#x27;yung sasama dahil sa problema sa financial,&quot; he shared.&quot;Ang sa amin sana po makatulong ang government natin sa programa ng baseball, magkaroon ng funding.
