<p>British boxing great Ricky Hatton, a former two-division world champion, has died at the age of 46, the World Boxing Association said on Sunday (September 14).</p><p>Nicknamed &#x27;the Hitman&#x27;, Hatton won the WBA, IBO and IBF light-welterweight titles and the WBA welterweight world championship during his 15-year professional career before retiring in 2012. He had been due to make a comeback for an event in Dubai this year.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/othersports/2025/9/14/former-boxing-world-champion-hatton-dead-at-46-2030">READ: Former boxing world champion Hatton dead at 46</a></div><p>British boxer Amir Khan paid tribute to his former colleague and friend describing him as a massive inspiration in his career.</p><p>&quot;What style he had, pressure fighter, also brought the whole of Manchester to boxing,&quot; Khan told the BBC. &quot;It&#x27;s a big loss for us.&quot;</p><p>British boxer Billy Schwer described him as a &quot;larger than life character&quot; that was loved by all and boxing journalist John Rawling alluded to Hatton&#x27;s personal problems after retirement and believes he found the sport &quot;a very difficult thing to replace&quot;.</p><p>A number of those connected with the sport posted on X tributes to Hattonn <a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/othersports/2025/9/14/pacquiao-mourns-ricky-hatton-we-shared-unforgettable-moments-2140">including his former opponent Manny Pacquiao</a> who wrote &quot;he was not only a great fighter inside the ring but also a brave and kind man in life.&quot;</p><p>A popular athlete in England, he was known to have been a fan of Manchester City of the Premier League.
