Photo from ASEAN Hyundai Cup</div>MANILA – The Philippine Men&#x27;s National Football Team will be facing familiar foes in the group stage of the 2026 ASEAN Championship, also known as the ASEAN Hyundai Cup.Following the draw ceremony on Thursday, the Philippines has been drawn in Group B with regional powerhouse Thailand, as well as Malaysia, Myanmar and Laos.In a press release, the PMNFT said it is aiming for a better showing in the tournament, building on the momentum from the &quot;historic campaign&quot; in 2024.  &quot;Hyundai Cup 2026 will be a great opportunity to continue showing the progression that Philippine football is making in recent times,&quot; PMNFT head coach Carles Cuadrat, who was present at the draw ceremony, said.&quot;Although we all know how difficult it will be to achieve one of the first two places, we are also aware that we are a very competitive team that we can be fighting for classification until the last game as happened in the last edition 2024, where after three draws the team managed to beat Indonesia away and move on to the next phase,&quot; he added.The Philippines aims to score a repeat over Thailand, following their clash in the last edition in 2024.  Last December 2024, the PMNFT stunned Thailand, 2-1, in the first leg of the semifinals held at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.The triumph was a major boost for the Philippines, since it is the first time the PMNFT beat Thailand in the competition.Kirk Linares was the hero for the Philippines in that stunning win, scoring a goal five minutes into stoppage time, to seal the history victory.However, Thailand went on to get revenge on home soil, defeating the Philippines, 3-1, advancing to the finals with an aggregate score of 4-3.  &quot;This team has already shown in the past that we can achieve these challenges, and in the ASEAN Championship Hyundai Cup 2026 we will have together another opportunity to demonstrate our growth as a football nation,&quot; Cuadrat added.Ahead of the ASEAN Championship, the PMNFT will return to the pitch to face Tajikistan in the final qualifying match of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup on March 31 at the Pamir Stadium in Dushanbe.Vietnam ultimately won its third title in the 2024 edition, while Thailand settled for runner-up.The defending champions are in Group A with Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia and the winner of the playoff between Brunei and Timor-Leste.The two nations will clash in home-and-away matches in June 2 and June 9.  Only the top two finishers in each group will advance to the semifinals, which will be held from August 15 and 16, then August 18 and 19.The finals will be set for two legs, scheduled for August 22 and 26.The 2026 ASEAN Championship will take place from July 24 to August 26.  The Philippines will begin its campaign on July 28 against Myanmar.
