Paige Javier, ABS-CBN News</div>MANILA – After making history in Milano Cortina, Winter Olympian Tallulah Proulx seized the opportunity to connect with her Filipino roots.Proulx traces her roots to the Philippines through her father James, whose mom is from Borongan, Eastern Samar.At 17-years-old, Proulx became the first Filipina and the youngest athlete from the country to compete at the Winter Olympics last month.The Filipino-American alpine skier finished 50th out of 95 skiers in slalom, while she ended her giant slalom campaign 54th out of 76 participants. Weeks after her historic campaign, Proulx arrived in Manila early Wednesday morning for several engagements.The 17-year-old and her father, James Proulx, were welcomed by officials from the Philippine Ski and Snowboard Federation and the Philippine Skating Union at the airport.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/othersports/2026/2/19/ph-s-proulx-wraps-up-winter-olympics-stint-with-50th-place-finish-in-slalom-0019">READ: PH&#x27;s Proulx wraps up Winter Olympics stint with 50th place finish in slalom </a></div>One of her first stops upon her arrival in the Philippines was the iconic Rizal Park Luneta in Manila – a common tourist spot.&quot;I flew in this morning. So, you know, it&#x27;s been really cool seeing, first of all, meeting everyone and then being here and seeing the Rizal monument and learning a bit more history. But it&#x27;s been really fun so far. And the weather is really nice,&quot; she told ABS-CBN News on Wednesday morning.For Proulx, it&#x27;s important for her to connect with her heritage after representing the flag.&quot;I think it&#x27;s really important for me to be here in the Philippines with Filipinos and you know, truly being able to connect with the Philippines and bring my experience from the Winter Olympics to the Philippines itself and bridging the gap there. And I think that I&#x27;m really excited to see what comes out in the future and what we can do further in the future with both the Winter Olympics and for the Philippines in general in sports,&quot; she said.Aside from taking in some tourist spots, Proulx tried out some Filipino food like chicken inasal, barbecue, liempo and palabok.&quot;It was really good. I had a barbecue and I also had like different pork and chicken and noodles and they were all really good. And I can&#x27;t wait to continue trying even more Filipino food and just experiencing everything that Manila has to offer, hopefully, within these next few day,&quot; she shared.&quot;I want to see my family in Eastern Samar. And honestly, there&#x27;s so many places throughout the Philippines that I just can&#x27;t wait to see that I bet I don&#x27;t even know about. I was just reading the email. I was like, what is this email? I opened it and I was right next to my mom and I told her right away. And she was like, oh, she was so excited for me. And that&#x27;s when we decided it was really important that I would be here in person to receive this award,&quot; she shared.&quot;I feel incredibly honored to have even been considered for an award. So I&#x27;m really excited to show up. And so I want to say thank you,&quot; she said.&quot;And I believe in whatever you want to pursue. And I hope that seeing me achieve my dreams also makes you inspired to achieve your own,&quot; Proulx added.After her brief but meaningful visit to the Philippines, the 17-year-old alpine skier will return to Park City, Utah to finish the season.&quot;I have lots of plans in the future either... I have a few different, you know, things I&#x27;m considering. Either I&#x27;ll go to college this year and join a ski club team to continue training. Or I&#x27;m considering taking a gap year and training in Europe for a little bit of time to be able to get more races in and more experience with racing internationally,&quot; Proulx said.
