Handout</div>MANILA — The World Surf League (WSL) has added Cloud 9 in Siargao to its Championship Tour calendar for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, bringing the world&#x27;s top surfers to the Philippines for the first time as part of the elite tour.The Philippines Pro, presented by the Philippine Sports Commission, will be held from Oct. 31 to Nov. 10 at the famed surfing break in Siargao. The event has been elevated from a WSL Qualifying Series 6,000 competition to a Championship Tour stop.The addition makes Cloud 9 the 11th stop on the 2026 Championship Tour and ensures the season will have at least 12 events should the Surf Abu Dhabi Pro be unable to proceed as originally scheduled, according to the WSL.&quot;We&#x27;re excited to welcome the Philippines to the Tour thanks to the support of the Philippine government,&quot; WSL CEO Ryan Crosby said in a statement. &quot;Elevating Cloud 9 to CT status reflects both the quality of the wave and the strength of our partnership.&quot;Current men&#x27;s world No. 1 Leonardo Fioravanti welcomed the addition of the Philippine stop, saying he looks forward to competing at Cloud 9, known internationally for its powerful right-hand barrels.The event will feature a reduced postseason field of 24 men and 16 women as surfers compete for crucial rankings points ahead of the season-ending Pipe Masters in Hawaii. Local wild-card slots will be awarded through a Philippines Pro Championship Tour Trials event to be held before the main competition.Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Patrick Gregorio described the event as a milestone for Philippine surfing.&quot;This will be a historic moment for Philippine surfing and the CT will usher the sport into a new era,&quot; Gregorio said.The WSL also announced plans to stage a World Longboard Tour event in La Union in January 2027, further expanding the Philippines&#x27; presence on the international surfing calendar.As part of the schedule update, the Surf Abu Dhabi Pro has been moved to Nov. 25-29, while the Portugal stop will now run from Oct. 16-25 to accommodate the addition of the Philippine leg.The Championship Tour resumes in August with events in Tahiti and Fiji before heading to Portugal, the Philippines, Abu Dhabi and concluding at Pipeline in Hawaii.
