MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Petro Gazz will be ending the year 2024 on a high note.

This, as the Angels made quick work of Cignal, 25-19, 25-21, 25-18, in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

The triumph marked the end of the HD Spikers' four-game winning streak while extending the Angels' own unbeaten run to four, earning the lead as they head into 2025.

Pablo was one of the enablers of the Angels' consecutive wins, helping the consistent Brooke Van Sickle by listing 15 attack points.

But for the ex-National University (NU) standout, it was a result of a team effort.

"Siguro, kinuha talaga namin 'yung momentum sa [four]-game win streak namin. Kaya nga sabi namin tulong-tulong kami as a team, kung ano'ng ginagalaw ngayon kailangan tuloy tuloy kami," said resurging ace Myla Pablo during the postgame press conference.

"Actually, halos lahat naman nag-contribute din so naging maganda 'yung resulta namin this game," she added.

Van Sickle, as always, provided Petro Gazz the spark it needed by collecting 19 points on a whopping six blocks and 13 attacks including seven excellent digs.

Echoing Pablo's sentiment, Van Sickle said the team did a "fantastic job."

"I’m just proud of the team. Everyone did a fantastic job. Super aggressive. I thought Myla did fantastic. I think every ball she touched was a kill. I’m just so proud of the team and it’s good to win against Cignal," said the former All-Filipino MVP.

Koji Tsuzurabara's cogs won overwhelmingly in the attacking department, scoring 49 compared to the HD Spikers' 32. The blocking side was led by, as mentioned, Van Sickle, with six for a total of 10, compared to Cignal's only three.

Although the now-leading Petro Gazz has conceded 20 errors, compared to the HD Spikers who only committed 14 in the one-hour, 43-minute volleyball affair.

"They’re [Cignal HD Spikers] a very, very good team. They’re very scrappy and they know how to win. I’m very proud leaving on a high note before Christmas," said Van Sickle.

Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Babylove Barbon defended well in the straight-set win, registering 10 excellent digs and 11 excellent receptions, respectively.

Petro Gazz's first assignment next year will be Chery Tiggo, while Cignal seeks to regain winning ways versus Galeries. Both matches are slated on January 21 at the same Pasig venue.
