Photo from UAAP Media."/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Ateneo de Manila University‘s Sobe Buena against the University of the Philippines in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament. <em>Photo from UAAP Media.</em></span></span></span>MANILA — Ateneo de Manila University finally barged into the win column of the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament.</div><p>The Blue Eagles turned back the erstwhile undefeated University of the Philippines on Sunday via a sweep, and this came just in time as they were already previously winless in two outings.</p><p>Heading the charge for the Katipunan-based hitters was Sobe Buena, who returned from a left ankle injury, as she posted 17 points with six digs and four receptions.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/volleyball/2025/2/23/uaap-buena-shines-as-ateneo-earns-breakthrough-win-at-ups-expense-1640">READ: Sobe Buena shines as Ateneo earns breakthrough win at UP&#x27;s expense</a></div><p>“It feels really good to be able to be back on the court,” she said after the game. </p><p>“Today, we played not just for us 12 on the court, not just for our coaching staff, but for the Ateneo community,” she continued.</p><p>The Blue Eagles are currently short-staffed as Zel Tsunashima and JLo Delos Santos are dealing with their respective leg injuries, but for Buena, these setbacks are what fuel them to defy the odds even more.</p><p>“I think we’re really very motivated now more so even kasi as I said, we’re not just playing for ourselves,” she pointed out.</p><p>“We’re playing for Zel and JLo, and I think that’s really something na we can get our strength from. It’s really something na we can keep working hard towards as we try to make the Final Four and help each other along the way.”</p><p>Much like in Season 86, it was against their Katipunan neighbors in which ADMU got their first win of the year. And while Ateneo only finished in fifth-place last year, Buena said that their win against UP can help them start to turn their fortunes around.</p><p>“Same as last year, I guess our first win was also against UP and last year,” Sobe pointed out. “It really boosted our morale going into the rest of the tournament and I think, same lang din for this year.”</p><p>“I think we just need to play with a lot of energy and aggressiveness, as coach told us to do. We really tried to play with a lot of confidence also kasi alam naman namin na in training, we give so much of our time to it, we give so much of our sacrifices.”</p><p>“Kaya I think panghuhugutan talaga namin itong win na ito and we really use it as motivation coming to the next games,” she added.</p><p>Ateneo will look to sustain its new-found confidence when they face Far Eastern University next Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.<strong></strong><br/></p><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong> <script data-wid="auto" type="text/javascript" src="https://content.viralize.tv/display/?zid=AAEyze-tm4MR6kEa&amp;cid=ABUrXYbOcXVGIjR2"></script></div>
