MANILA -- With Bella Belen and other key stars having moved on to the professional ranks, the National University Lady Bulldogs say they are gearing up for a rebuild.Aside from Belen -- a three-time UAAP Most Valuable Player who became the No. 1 overall pick in the recent Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Rookie Draft -- National U also bid goodbye to opposite hitter Alyssa Solomon, and middle blockers Sheena Toring and Erin Pangilinan.The exit of core pieces left the Lady Bulldogs to take in new paws, which will be shown on full display in their bid for a fourth consecutive crown in the Shakey&#x27;s Super League (SSL) Pre-season Unity Cup scheduled to begin on Sept. 20.&quot;Right now, we are [a] rebuilding team, and ayun may mga bagong aabangan, which is our rookies,&quot; veteran setter Lams Lamina told ABS-CBN News on Wednesday. At the forefront of the relatively young NU squad is UAAP Season 87 girls&#x27; MVP Sam Cantada, who was named the Best Player of the Davao Leg of the SSL National Invitationals that the Lady Bulldogs dominated.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/volleyball/2025/8/3/volleyball-nu-turns-back-up-to-rule-davao-leg-of-ssl-natl-invitationals-2202">READ: NU turns back UP to rule Davao leg of SSL Nat&#x27;l Invitationals</a></div><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/volleyball/2025/8/4/volleyball-lady-bulldogs-pass-first-test-in-rebuilding-campaign-1533" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">READ: Lady Bulldogs pass first test in &#x27;rebuilding&#x27; campaign</a></div>Aside from the rookie star, NU-Nazareth products composed of Den Daylisan, Harlyn Serneche, and middle blockers Kate dela Peña and Jenelyn Jacob chose to remain with the Jhocson-based program.Amid the retooling of the three-peat-seeking roster, the reigning Best Setter in the SSL said that it is a chance for her and the younger players to rise to the occasion.&quot;Also parang opportunity din &#x27;to samin at sa mga bata na mag-step up since wala na yung mga ates namin,&quot; Lamina, who is also the Best Setter in UAAP Season 87, said.Lamina added that remaining seniors will guide the rookies in adjusting to the NU volleyball system, which will now be helmed by former De La Salle player Regine Diego.&quot;Yung mindset talaga namin na hindi magiging madali itong laban namin, siguro lahat kami… magtutulungan talaga para maka-adjust at ayun makalaro nang matiwasay,&quot; she said.Vange Alinsug — who recently took the team captain duties from Belen — expressed enthusiasm in parading the new recruits of the Lady Bulldogs.&quot;Sila din naman po top sa high school level, pero ngayon, since iba yung level ng laro ng high school at college, iga-guide naman namin [at] matutulungan sila,&quot; the open spiker said. &quot;Madami po kaming adjustments, especially nung first league namin, yung Invitational sa Shakey&#x27;s, but dun kasi nakita din namin na kaya namin,&quot; she added. The Lady Bulldogs swept all three games in the Davao Leg en route to their second straight National Invitationals title.
