Photo from UAAP Media.MANILA — Adamson University is aiming to break into the Final Four in UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball, and head coach JP Yude knows much will hinge on sophomore standout Shaina Nitura.</div>Nitura, last season’s Rookie of the Year, is expected to take on a bigger role for a Lady Falcons squad that will parade six rookies in their upcoming campaign.With a relatively young lineup, Yude wants the 21-year-old to embrace leadership not only on the taraflex but also off the court.“Yung maturity niya, andoon na,” said Yude, a former Adamson high school champion coach. “Pero hindi pa naman siya ulit nakakapaglaro sa UAAP mismo, so I hope na mas eager siya sa leadership talaga, para tumaas pa yung laro niya.”Beyond her proven scoring ability, Yude also challenged the Cainta native to become a more well-rounded player.“Lahat naman kailangan pang i-work on,” Yude said of Nitura, who last season set multiple records, including the most points in a single game with 38, the most 30-point performances in a season with six, and the most points scored by a rookie in her UAAP debut with 33.“Sa palo, sa passing, and serving, lahat yun work-in-progress pa. So kailangan niya pa daanan lahat yung aspects na yun para mas maging consistent pa siya,” he added.Yude also acknowledged Nitura’s growth since joining Alas Pilipinas last year, but emphasized that her development should extend beyond individual improvement.For the Adamson mentor, Nitura’s experience with the national team should translate into stronger leadership and unity within the squad.“Yung relationship talaga ng mga bata [ang key], on how they play as one,” Yude emphasized. “We have a goal, pero dapat kasama doon yung pagiging united, kasi yun ang importante sa system namin.“
