UAAP Media. </div>MANILA (UPDATED) — De La Salle University opened its UAAP Season 88 women&#x27;s volleyball campaign in convincing fashion.The Lady Spikers carved out a hard-earned sweep of Far Eastern University, 25-19, 25-14, 27-25, in their Valentine&#x27;s Day showdown on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, with team captain Shevana Laput leading the charge.Laput poured in 23 points, including the finishing blows in the extended third set, along with five digs. Angel Canino added 14 points, four receptions, and three digs in a steady all-around effort.&quot;It shows that we&#x27;re a team that wants to win, that wants to redeem ourselves,&quot; said Laput. &quot;In the past, we finished third and then second, so it only makes sense that we&#x27;re aiming to be first.&quot;Amie Provido also delivered, tallying 11 points built on six blocks, four attacks, and one ace, while Rookie setter Eshana Nunag efficiently orchestrated the offense, facilitating all but one of La Salle&#x27;s excellent sets.After controlling much of the match, it was Laput and Canino who steadied the Lady Spikers in crunch time.Trailing 22-24 in the third set as the Lady Tamaraws threatened to extend the match, La Salle knotted the score at 24 off a crosscourt kill by Canino.Laput then capped their decisive 5-to-1 closing run, hammering back-to-back attacks to seal the straight-sets victory.On the other side, Gerzel Petallo paced FEU with 11 points on 10 attacks and one block, while Clarisse Loresco contributed eight markers in the loss.
