UAAP Media.</div>MANILA (UPDATED) — De La Salle University overcame two-time defending champion National University to complete a first-round sweep of UAAP Season 88 women&#x27;s volleyball.The Lady Spikers took down the Lady Bulldogs, 25-21, 25-19, 19-25, 25-18, to end the first half of their campaign with seven straight wins and tighten their hold on the top seed.Leading La Salle anew was Shevana Laput, who fired 19 points with eight digs. Backstopping her was Angel Canino, who added 14 points, 10 receptions, and six digs as the Lady Spikers ended a five-game skid to National U.&quot;Mas ginusto ng mga bata ngayon,&quot; said Lady Spikers head coach Ramil De Jesus after they finally defeated the Lady Bulldogs for the first time since their Season 86 first-round win in early 2024.&quot;Nakikita ko sa kanila na natututo na sila sa mga kulang nila nung past seasons. Setter Eshana Nunag was a star in the playmaking department once more, tossing 22 excellent sets.La Salle&#x27;s balanced charge was on full display, as the Lady Spikers raced to a 15-3 start in the fourth set to recover from their third-frame setback.And while the Lady Bulldogs eventually regained their footing and trimmed the deficit to two, 16-18, their 31 errors proved too costly. Laput and Provido eventually shut the door on the reigning titlists with the closing points for La Salle.Rookie Sam Cantada led National U with 13 points, 14 receptions, and four digs despite coming off the bench, while Cham Maaya and Celine Marsh chipped in 10 and nine markers, respectively.The Lady Bulldogs will settle for the second seed after finishing the first round with five wins against two defeats.
