UAAP Media.</div>MANILA (UPDATED) — Ateneo de Manila University snapped its five-game skid in UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball after completing a hard-earned sweep of University of the East.The Blue Eagles rallied late in the third set to defeat the also-ran Lady Warriors, 25-23, 25-19, 29-27, in their Saturday afternoon clash at the University of Santo Tomas Quadricentennial Pavilion in Manila.Ateneo notched just its second win against 11 defeats, with Dona de Leon leading the charge with 14 points and three digs. Ana Hermosura added 11 markers and three digs.Jihan Atone also stepped up with 12 points built on seven kills and five blocks, while JLo Delos Santos and Zey Pacia chipped in nine and five points, respectively.For head coach Sergio Veloso, these performances are a testament to the team’s resilience despite its struggles throughout the season.“This is the purpose. Never, never give up. You need to stay at a high level all the time. In the end, you put up a good fight,” he said. “It doesn&#x27;t matter if we start well or not. You need to fight all the time.”In the endgame, it was Ateneo’s composure that proved crucial.Tied at 27, the Blue Eagles reached match point following an attack error by Van Bangayan. Delos Santos then sealed the victory in the next play with a service ace.The Katipunan-based squad will look to close out its campaign with back-to-back wins when it returns to action on Wednesday, April 22, against Far Eastern University at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.Meanwhile, the loss marked the Lady Warriors’ 14th straight defeat this season and their 28th consecutive loss dating back to Season 87 in 2025.Khy Cepada led UE with a game-high 18 points, along with 13 receptions and 11 digs, while Bangayan added 12 markers and eight digs in the loss.
