<div><br/></div><p>CANDON, Ilocos Sur — With a cracking voice, turning emotional, Alas Pilipinas captain Alyssa Valdez answered why she chose to rep the flag again.</p><p>Valdez, 32, who has dedicated years to the sport, remained grateful for another chance to play and lead the national team anew.</p><p>Although there were inner doubts, amid issues hampering the Philippine volleyball scene, it was her love for the sport and the country that drove to that decision.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/volleyball/2026/5/20/alyssa-valdez-i-will-never-get-tired-of-representing-the-country-1627"><strong>READ: Alyssa Valdez: &#x27;I will never get tired of representing the country&#x27;<br/></strong></a></div><p>“Siguro one thing I realized all throughout this experience din, I’ve been also asking myself kung bakit ko rin ginawa ‘tong desisyon na ‘to sa volleyball career ko,” said Valdez.</p><p>“And I think one thing that actually siguro lumabas was kung ano ‘yung love nung bata ako para sa volleyball, hanggang ngayon ‘yun pa rin ‘yung love ko sa pagre-represent sa bansa,” added the veteran spiker, as her voice cracked.</p><p>While Valdez acknowledged the bad result at the 2026 AVC Women&#x27;s Cup, she hopes to see the younger players retain the fire in them and just continue representing the Philippines.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/sports/volleyball/2026/6/11/avc-valdez-delos-santos-keeping-high-hopes-for-alas-pilipinas-1842"><strong>READ: AVC: After crashing out of semis contention, Valdez, Delos Santos keeping high hopes for Alas Pilipinas<br/></strong></a></div><p>“So ‘yun, ang sarap lang. Pero di naging maganda para sa amin ‘yung… I mean hindi naging maganda ‘yung resulta, pero sana sa mga bata sana wish namin talaga magtuloy-tuloy sila sa pagre-represent sa country,” said the Creamline skipper.</p><p>Their national team return remains up in the air, disclosed Valdez and fellow seasoned leader Jovelyn Gonzaga.</p><p>“Uncertain pa rin,” Valdez said, echoing Gonzaga.</p><p>The Valdez-led Alas finished at eighth place in the AVC Cup in the Candon-hosted tournament, bowing down to Iran on Sunday, 21-25, 12-25, 21-25.</p>
